North Melbourne Residence I

Images coming soon.

Studio Tate has given new life to a former factory in Melbourne’s inner north through an urban reconversion project.  Keeping the shell of the building intact, together with Dubois, two apartments were created and set over three storeys; a family home to the rear and an additional one-bedroom apartment to the front.

Embracing the embedded history of the site, existing features such as factory windows and exposed brick walls have been retained. A palette of raw, natural materials injects a contemporary look while blending into the industrial surrounds, with terrazzo flooring, oak joinery and black steel finishes.

A subtle blue narrative is woven through the design, including a custom-designed blue terrazzo front door handle. A rooftop terrace with views out to the city is concealed at the back of the property and a glass-walled lift offers access to the three floors.
