Toby’s Estate
Food and Beverage

Studio Tate worked with Australian coffee brand Toby’s Estate, to design and deliver a café within the ground floor preccinct of the Commonwealth Bank office building at Darling Square, Sydney. The design direction was derived from historic references of the treasury and its refined, opulent aesthetic.

The interior features rich tones and warm, metallic finishes to evoke the gravitas of traditional treasury design. The palette reinforces the nostalgic aesthetic, with dark green stone and classic selections of black, green and white marble, along with plush velvet for seating. Traditional design sensibility is found in details such as bullnose stone benchtops, brass kick rails and high bars with integrated lighting, reminiscent of original bankers’ desks.

The cafe offers bar space, lounge seating, booths and communal dining, along with upholstered banquettes with small integrated stone ledges, perfect for resting a cup of coffee or a sweet treat.
