Studio Tate were given the freedom to meld the old and new, resulting in an evocative transformation of space. The existing soul of the home, with a beautiful established garden that becomes a ‘second living space’ has been tapped into through considered design, enhancing an inherently country cottage feeling.

Detailing and materiality reflect a ‘classic contemporary’ approach, from the chevron timber floor to the use of polished and brushed brass and the modern take on traditional panelling, designed to reflect the uniqueness of the owners.

The kitchen features a statement brass rangehood with an oversized island bench conceived as a family gathering area, able to seat the clients’ six grandchildren. The addition of a workable butler’s pantry and glamorous bar adjacent to the kitchen reflect the vivacious owners’ love of cooking and entertaining while showcasing their collection of glassware and other pieces. The same sophisticated approach is evident throughout the home from the free-standing vanity with scalloped stone edge in the bathroom, to the emphasis placed on display, with interesting pieces from the owners’ travels now easily curated.

Key pieces of existing furniture were retained and reimagined through new, adventurous fabrics and paired with modern pieces to create an eclectic mix, while colours used mirror the optimistic spirit of the owners.
