Holism Retreat MGallery, Hotel Chadstone

Studio Tate’s design of Holism– a destination day spa within the newly opened 5 star MGallery by Sofitel Hotel Chadstone in Melbourne – was inspired by a polished gem emerging from the rough.

Studio Tate conceived the space as an urban sanctuary, at home amongst its luxury fashion neighbours. Colour, texture and form merge to create Holism’s unique visual identity: a layered canvas of muted, tonal hues enlivened with arched thresholds, rendered walls and soft, recessed lighting.

A sculptural reception desk featuring faceted pink granite, brass inlay and mosaic greets guests on arrival. Embracing the desk, a gently curving wall is layered with stone and glossy timber shelves atop brass rods, providing space for curated retail display.

Through the arched thresholds there are treatment rooms, a light therapy treatment lounge, yoga studio, private consultation suite and guest amenities.

Whilst each space has its own distinct identity, a reflection of their various functions, they are united by a sense of calm indulgence. The overall palette is gentle and softly spoken, the spaces humble in scale. It is a space imagined to reflect the transformative process of refinement; from rough texture through to polished facet and represents an intelligent realisation of the wellness experience.
