Glassworks

Located on a heritage site in Richmond, originally home to a glass manufacturer, this multi-residential townhouse project has been created as a working factory, referencing the embedded urban history of this place. The functional aesthetics found in industrial finishes have been brought to the foreground here, with a materials palette of timber, stainless steel and exposed brick lending these considered homes a textured patina.

Custom joinery in the kitchen and living areas take this distinctive detailing down to the fine grain, such as the open fireplace with brick mantle. The site was planned in order to optimise the spatial amenity of each townhouse, generously proportioned so that the two-level design could comfortably fit a small family. Special touches such as sculleries, laundries and outdoor areas elevate this project above the usual expectations for small footprint living.
